Ambassador Dr. Ali Mousa, Yemen’s acting Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, chaired the emergency meeting of the Council of the Arab League at the level of permanent representatives.

The meeting discussed the serious illegal laws passed by the Israeli Knesset, which lead to the prohibition of activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the occupied Palestinian territory, including occupied East Jerusalem, and the necessary steps to mobilize international support to confront these measures.

Ambassador Dr. Ali Mousa expressed the Republic of Yemen’s stance, strongly condemning the adoption of laws by the Israeli entity that ban the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) from carrying out its humanitarian activities and work. He emphasized that these practices represent a new level of arbitrariness and an undermining of the principles and laws of humanitarian work, with serious humanitarian consequences exacerbating the suffering of the Palestinian people.

He renewed the call for the international community, and the UN Security Council, to put an end to these practices and daily crimes through an immediate ceasefire that ensures the security, stability, and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people according to the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative, and international resolutions and conventions.

He affirmed Yemen’s full support for UNRWA and its continued operation and role in providing crucial humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people to avoid catastrophic consequences resulting from withholding humanitarian assistance from Palestinians in the occupied territories, and using it as a weapon against them in a severe violation of their rights and of international and humanitarian law.
