Dr. Waed Badhib, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, met on Tuesday with Dr. Abdullah Al-Dardari, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Regional Bureau for Arab States at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The meeting took place on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum in New York City.
The two officials discussed UNDP’s efforts and interventions in Yemen, particularly regarding the development of a comprehensive vision for recovery and reconstruction. This vision aims to unify multiple frameworks into a single, cohesive developmental plan that prioritizes both short and medium-term objectives.
Minister Badhib expressed his appreciation for UNDP’s support in updating technical and feasibility studies for critical infrastructure projects across various sectors. He highlighted their valuable contributions in fostering private sector partnerships, enhancing statistical capabilities for national accounting and data analysis, and promoting good governance, rule of law, transparency, accountability, and human rights.
Dr. Al-Dardari reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to supporting Yemen’s recovery and development. He emphasized the program’s dedication to helping the country move beyond its current economic and social challenges towards a future defined by resilience, sustainable growth, and reconstruction. He further stressed the importance of investing in renewable energy and environmental sustainability for a brighter future.
The meeting was attended by Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Hawri, Undersecretary of the Studies and Economic Forecasts Sector at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
